The Argyle Eagles traveled to McKinney Tuesday night and blasted the McKinney Boyd Broncos 94-55. The game could have had the makings of a trap game for the Eagles after the emotional win over state ranked Princeton just one night before. Only the Eagles were simply a much better team and were in no mood for a let down before the holiday.
The mismatch was evident early as the Eagles jumped on the Broncos defensively. At the other end of the court the offense sputtered, then took off. The Broncos simply had no answer for Cory Dixon. The 6'-6" post got position down low and the Eagles all-region point guard Caden Dickerson just fed it to him and watched him score. Dixon would finish with 24 points to lead all scorers.
Dixon wasn't the only post player to feed at the scoring trough as Zach Pearson elbowed his way in for 13, Michael Mead had 7 and Brian Hommel chipped in 6. This would have typically been a night that Billy Bruce Carroll would have rung up a big scoring night, but was hampered with foul trouble and eventually fouled out of the game early in the fourth quarter.
With 54 points by the post players one would think that it didn't leave much for the guards, however, Dickerson (13), Brandon Peck (9) and Josh Drake (7), were also productive by slashing the Broncos defense with penetration to the basket.
At the end of three quarters the Eagles looked as though they were headed for a 100 point night, but Boyd called a timeout late in the game and elected to go into a stall with three minutes to play in order to thwart the Argyle scoring onslaught.
The Eagles, now 4-0 take a break for the holiday and then head into the Collin County Roundball tournament which is full of perennial 5A playoff teams. The Eagles first round opponent is Seagoville.
