8th grade boys A team
On Thursday night, the Eagles opened the tournament against the 8th seeded Gainesville Leopards. The Eagles cruised from the start, building an early lead and holding on to it. The final score was 48-6. Leading scorers were Carston and Chadd Bossow, who had nine points apiece.
On Saturday morning, the mighty Eagles of Decatur were the opponent. Decatur got there by upsetting Sanger on Thursday. Decatur played tough, matching Argyle basket-for-basket early in the first quarter. After being up by only one late in the first, Argyle proceeded to go on a 19-2 run to close the first half. Chadd Bossow led the way with 22, while Clarke Overlander chipped in 10 points. The final score: Argyle 57, Decatur 29.
The championship game pitted the two top teams from the regular season. Argyle was the #1 seed, and the Whitesboro Bearcats were the #2 seed, with their only loss coming at home against the Eagles just a few weeks prior. Whitesboro opened the scoring, putting Argyle behind, something that does not usually happen. The Eagles responded nicely, though, going on a 10-0 run. They continued their dominance in the second quarter, and at halftime, the Eagles led 27-8. The second half was more of the same. The Eagles continued to put pressure on the Bearcats. The leading scorers for the games were Clarke Overlander with 15 and Will Forrer with 12. When the final horn sounded, the Eagles claimed the district championship with a sound, 47-22 victory.
The Eagles received tremendous contributions throughout the year from all players. A mixture of great defense and timely offense helped propel them to victory. I would like to congratulate all of the players on a great season, they deserve everything that they receive. The hard work and determination paid off. The 2007-2008 Argyle 8th Grade Eagles are: Connor York, Will Forrer, Brad Pearson, Matson Kane, Tyler Eveleth, Clarke Overlander, Josh Bostick, Carston Bossow, Garrett Maestas, and Chadd Bossow.
Thanks for a great season!
