Eagles Blast Bearcats

04/20/08

By Jeff Cantrell

Argyle used a plethora of extra-base hits to out slug Whitesboro 10-5 to extend their winning streak. The district mark now stands at 11-2 (17-7) with one regular season game remaining.

Eddie Eckert (2-3, 2 RBIs, 2 scores) had the big bop over the RCF fence in the fifth inning. Layton Lowry (1-3, score) lead off the second inning with a standup triple to RCF. Lance Sutton (1-3, 3 scores) lead off the game with a LF double, Pat Dawkins (3-4, 4 RBIs, 2 scores) smashed a double in the sixth inning, and Eckert blasted one in the third.

The Eagles opened the game with three runs courtesy of Sutton's double, three walks, two passed balls, a Dawkins RBI single, and an Eckert RBI deep fly ball. Argyle added another run in the second inning after Lowry lead off with a triple and scored on an RBI bunt by Scotty Stewart. Whitesboro cut the lead in half in the bottom of the second via three singles, an error, and a hit batsman. Eckert then hit his two out double in the third inning and scored on Storm Griffin's RBI single. The bottom of the third was scoreless, highlighted by Sutton's diving catch to rob the clean-up batter of a base hit. He then lead off the top of the fourth inning drawing a base-on-balls and advanced to third base on consecutive passed balls, ultimately scoring on a Dawkins single. Eckert's jack made the score 7-2 going into the bottom of the fifth inning, but a Bearcat leadoff double and an error cut the lead to 7-3. Sutton and Jake Sizelove both drew walks in the sixth inning, and scored on Dawkins' double, who scored himself on a passed ball. Whitesboro added two more runs on two singles, an error, and a hit batsman, but could muster no more. The last out of the game was recorded on a diving catch of a deep pop foul by right fielder Mike Stein.

Pat Dawkins started the game on the mound going 2 and 1/3 innings allowing 2 runs on 3 hits while striking out 2 batters. Scotty Stewart came on in relief spreading 5 hits over 4 and 2/3 innings and giving up only two earned runs. He also struck out 6 Bearcats.

Argyle travels to Pilot Point Tuesday 4/22 at 4:30 to close out the regular season.
