Kyle Frizzell signs with Western New Mexico

Kyle Frizzell signed a letter of intent today to play football on scholarship for Western New Mexico University in Silver City, New Mexico, as part of a special signing ceremony at Argyle High School.

Frizzell, a three year varsity starter for Argyle, is expected to add depthto the line-up next season as a running back for the Mustangs.
“Kyle is an excellent football player and we’re are thrilled to have him be a part of our program,” said Coach Bernie Busken, head coach of Western New Mexico University. “He runs hard, has a low center of gravity, and he’s tough, physical and blocks well. We believe there is a great chance he will be on the field next year running touchdowns.”
Frizzell was twice named All-district for the Eagles, in addition to being named to the All-area and All-region teams. He was highlighted twice by the Dallas Morning News as one of the outstanding players of the week.
“It’s an honor to have the opportunity to play football for Western New Mexico University,” said Frizzell. “They are building a strong program under Coach Busken, and I hope I can make a difference for them.”
In his high school career, Frizzell gained more than 2,800 rushing yards and scored 32 touchdowns. His average per carry was 5.7 yards. In the past two seasons, he has rushed more than 1,000 yards per season for the Eagles.

In addition, Frizzell holds the school record for the longest touchdown(86 yards) and the most touchdowns in a single game with five. Separately, he’s second on the school’s record books behind former standout Jeff Martz for most career yards, most yards in a season, most points scored in a season, most yards in a game and best average in yards per carry in a season.

Likewise, he is third on Argyle’s record books for most points in a career with 192 scored, and the best average yards per carry in a single game.
Each year at Argyle, Frizzell’s teams went to the playoffs. The Eagles were state-runner ups his freshman year, and district champs his junior year. During his senior season, the team went undefeated at home with a new school record for consecutive wins. Frizzell was coached by Todd Rodgers, head coach, Jeff Harp, offensive coordinator, and Tommy Ledford, running backs coach.

In addition to football, Frizzell also lettered in track and wrestled varsity as a freshman. He carries a 3.5 grade point average in school, planning to major in PR and communications at Western New Mexico.  His older brother, Zack, was twice named All-district honorable mention for the Eagles as a lineman and an all-district wrestler, and his sister, Annie, is a member of Argyle’s outstanding volleyball team that went deep in the playoffs this past year.

“It has been a phenomenal experience to play for Argyle and Coach Rodgers these past several years,” Frizzell said. “These are great memories that will last a lifetime. “

Brady Brown goes to SEC

Wide Receiver signs with Vanderbilt.

Before an overflow crowd, Brady Brown realized his dream on Wednesday, February 4th by signing a football letter of intent to Vanderbilt University. The ceremony took place at Argyle High School and included a reception afterwards.

Vanderbilt University is located in Nashville, Tennessee and plays in the BCS Southeastern Conference. Vanderbilt completed its season with a Music City Bowl win against Boston College in December.

Brown was the most highly recruited athlete in Argyle history receiving a total of 18 scholarship offers from the top football programs in the country including Nebraska, Auburn, Kansas, Virginia, Stanford, Purdue, and Iowa. Brown indicated that he chose Vanderbilt because of “the world class education, the atmosphere and scenery in Nashville, and the opportunity to play in the best conference in the country.”  Brown was very impressed with the coaches and the small school atmosphere was “perfect”. Brown, being the only wide receiver taken in this class, feels he may get the opportunity to contribute to the team early.
