Lady Eagles softball

Lady Eagles Light up Nolan Catholic

February 26, 2008 the Lady Eagles scored 11 runs and defeated Nolan Catholic by a score of 11 to 2.  Argyle was led by Taylor Petrick who had three hits including a homerun and five runs batted in during the thirteen hit onslaught.  Laura Carr had two hits including a double.  Erin Leamon, Chandler Hamilton and Jennifer Speer each had two hits.  Brittany O'Brien who joined the team after being defeated in the basketball playoffs collected her first high school hit.  The offense was supported by Rebecca Capra and Kristen Armstrong each scoring a run and Kayla Massey added a single and knocked in a run.  Emily Rodgers earned another win by pitching six innings.  Whe threw 101 pitches with 67 being strikes.  She walked four batters and struck out one while allowing only 6 hits.

Lady Eagles Softball Scrimmages

The Lady Eagles have begun their 2009 softball season.

With two scrimmages behind them they will begin their season this week.  The game will be played on Thursday  in Krum beginning at 6 p.m.  The Lady Eagles will return home on Tuesday February 17.  They will host FW Castleberry at 5 p.m.

The two scrimmages were a good challenge for the young team.  Emily R. pitched well in both games but a lack of support both offensively and defensively hampered the team.  Coach Coonrod has the girls working hard at learning the game and how she expects them to play.  After the second scrimmage the results are beginning to show.  The Lady Eagles although young this year does have a host of returning players.  Emily R. (P), Rebecca C. (OF), Katie Mc. (OF), Erin L. (3B) and Taylor P. (C) are helping Coach Coonrod teach her philosophy of the game.  Taylor P. is currently recovering from surgery.  She hopes to return full time in the next week or two.  Jennifer S. (SS) and Brittany O. (1B) are playing basketball for now.  Jennifer will return to softball at the end of the basketball season.  However Brittany O. (shoulder) is possibly out for the season.  New to the lineup for 2009 are Cristin P. (OF), Emily M. (OF) and Lauren Z. (2B).  All three are playing well early in the season and should continue to develope with Coach Coonrod's direction.

HIghlights of the first two scrimmages:

Erin L. filled in nicely at short stop and made several defensive plays.  She also stole three bases.

Katie McK. stole one base and had one hit and two sacrifice bunts.

Kristin P. had her first high school hit and made two nice catches.

Rebecca C. had a hit and drove in one run while filling in at catcher.

Emily R. pitched both gamees and had quite a few strikeouts and only walked two batters in the second game.

Lauren Z. had two sacrifice bunts, a stolen base and made several plays at second.

Emily M. made a "Willie Say Hey Mays" catch in centerfield and collected her first varsity single.

Brook O.  played both first and third base and played well at both positions.

Carolyn played third base in the first game and made several stops.

Deena pinch ran for Katie and stole a base.

Taylor P. played in the second game and made a nice tag out of a runner on an errant throw.

Even though both scrimmages did not result in a victory, the girls played well and are on their way to developing into a fine team.  Coach Coonrod's first year at Argyle should bring Argyle their first taste of the playoffs in softball.
