Argyle (3A): Quiet, yet effective; Caden Dickerson and Co. can play.
Jesuit (5A): A disciplined team that can go far with some breaks.
Krum (2A): It beat Ponder earlier this season; why not again in the playoffs?
Lancaster (4A): Run-and-gun style makes it a threat every game.
Plano West (5A): With Region I so loaded, this squad flies under the radar.

2. Burkburnett
Pre-season Texas Association of Basketball Coaches poll gives lofty ranking to senior laden Eagles.
Argyle boys basketball team (7-1) fell to Ardmore 66-54 on a night that the shooting was as cold as the Oklahoma wind. The Eagles were clearly an equal to the #4 ranked 5A Tigers, but the shots would not fall.
The JV and Freshman teams also lost, leaving the Eagles 0 for Oklahoma. The Freshman loss is the first ever for this group, having gone undefeated in the 7th and 8th grades.
Next up for the varsity is the Fairfield tournament on Thursday night where the Eagles will face Palestine at 7:30.
With a roster still trying to develop its chemistry on offense, Argyle has made defense a priority so far this season. On Saturday, the Eagles used that aggressive mentality to open up an early lead, then pull away late for a 77-48 win over Fort Worth Brewer.
The Eagles, coming off of their first loss, took out some frustrations on Palestine on Thursday night with a 92-30 win in the first round of the Fairfield tournament. Caden Dickerson splashed in a career high 30 points. The Eagles advance to the second round against Waco High on Friday at 4:30.

The Argyle High School basketball program boasts its second D-1 player in a row with Western Kentucky's signing of Caden Dickerson, the Eagles All-State point guard. The signing, held at Argyle High School on November 15th, was a celebration of the hard work by Dickerson to achieve his goal of playing college basketball at the highest level.
Caden, a senior, is beginning his fourth year as a member of the Eagle varsity and third year as a starter. He was named the District MVP last year on an Eagles team that advanced to the Regional semi-finals for the second year in a row.
Western Kentucky, a perennial NCAA tournament participant advanced to the sweet 16 last year. Hilltoppers Coach Ken McDonald said "Although Caden's a point guard, he's a big point guard. He can play the two, he can shoot the ball, he's a really tough kid and a good floor leader. For a guy his age, he's very vocal and that doesn't come around a whole lot. You learn to value that as a head coach and that's important, so he brings a true value to the team."

The Argyle Eagles varsity boys basketball team roared past the Waco Lions 72-55 in the second round of the Fairfield tournament. The game was not as close as the score would make it appear as the Eagles led by 30 late into the 4th quarter. Caden Dickerson led all scorers with 27 points.
The win did come at a big cost as the Eagles lost senior starter Michael Mead to an ankle injury and will likely not return for the remainder of the tournament.
The #4 state ranked Eagles will face Mexia, ranked #9 Saturday morning at 10:30 in what promises to be one of the best match-ups of the year in 3A. The winner will advance to the championship game Saturday evening at 7:30, the loser plays in the third place game at 6:00.
The Argyle Eagles scratched the #9 ranked Mexia Black Cats from the winner's bracket of the Fairfield Tournament 61-36. The Eagles dominated the Black Cats by imploring a brutal defense limiting the Black Cats to 15 first half points. Caden Dickerson was assigned the Black Cats top scorer and put on a defensive clinic.
While Dickerson was able to cause a number of forced shots, the Argyle posts, Zach Pearson, Doug Fryar and Walter Phillips gobbled up the rebounds further limiting the 'Cats offensive efforts.
Freshman Clarke Overlander got his first start due to the injury to Michael Mead and made the most of it by bombing in 20 points to lead Argyle. Carson York cut the Mexia defense with surgical precision and led the Eagles in assists. Matt Moore and Scotty Seiber provided much needed intensity in key times giving the Eagles the edge during Mexia's attempts to rally back.
The Eagles face tournament host Fairfield tonight at 7:30 in the championship game.
The Eagles continued their domination of Central Texas basketball teams by crushing tournament host Fairfield on Saturday night.
The Eagles used a diverse offense and spread out the scoring. In the first quarter the Eagles raced out to a huge early lead with five three pointers by four different players.
After the first quarter the game seemed to be reduced to a wrestling match that was not conducive to scoring. Fairfield turned up their aggressive defense and Argyle responded to the challenge in kind. While the Eagles were forced to slug it out on the offensive end, they returned the favor on defense. The Eagles defense was rock solid all weekend and allowed an average of less than 40 points per game.
The Eagles continued to be successful offensively with a balanced attack. In spite of the aggressive defense on Caden Dickerson, he managed to lead all scorers with 17.
Next up for Argyle is 2A nemesis Krum on Monday, December 15 at 7:30 in the Argyle High School gymnasium.

Argyle wins overtime thriller 68-64
The #6 ranked Argyle Eagles varsity basketball team defeated Dallas Kimball in overtime 68-64 in the Dallas Morning News/Dallas ISD Playoff Showcase at Dallas ISD's Ellis Davis Fieldhouse on Saturday.
The Eagles controlled early, fueled by Caden Dickerson's 20 point first half. In the second half, Kimball focused their defensive efforts on Dickerson and the Eagles struggled to adjust and trailed after three quarters 51-44.
With less than three minutes remaining the Eagles trailed by ten but began chipping away. Carson York hit a three to bring the Eagles to within five. With only six seconds remaining and down 62-59 the Eagles took the ball inbounds and after two quick passes found an open Zach Pearson who hit a game tying three point shot to send the game into overtime.
In the overtime, there was no scoring until the final minute when Argyle broke the stalemate and took a small lead behind free throws from Pearson. Dickerson sealed it with a late free-throw and Argyle pulled out the win 68-64.
The Eagles defense held Kimball scoreless for almost eight minutes and did not allow a basket until seconds remaining in overtime. Down the stretch, great defensive play was turned in by Doug Fryer who took a charge at a critical point in the game.
Dickerson led all scorers with 25, Walter Phillips added 16. Zach Pearson finished with 11, Matt Moore was 2 for 2 from the three point line to add six along with Carson York's six points. Clarke Overlander had four and Doug Fryer two.
