To: Members of the Argyle Athletic Booster Club
It has come to my attention there may be some misperception as to the Argyle Booster Club support of our athletic seasonal banquets. I hope to dispel any misunderstanding with the following information.
In the school year 2008-09 the Booster club spent approximately $12,000 on athletic banquets after ticket sale income. The Booster Club board wondered if the majority of the $12,000 might be better spent on our student athletes’ training, equipment, uniforms, etc.
The board voted to make the following changes:
· We would no longer hold the athletic banquets at outside venues as our school auditorium is a fantastic venue for just such recognition ceremonies and costs the Booster Club nothing. Rent for the facilities alone last year was $1800.
· We would no longer fund a full meal, but rather a reception after the recognition ceremony. The booster club would pay for cake, cookies, soda, punch, etc much as is provided at our athletes’ college signing ceremonies.
· We left the decision fully up to the coaching staff as to whether or not the banquets would be fall, winter, or spring; or, by individual sport.
At no time was it the Booster Club’s intention to eliminate recognition for our athletes. It is and has always been our intention to support our middle school through high school student athletes both in spirit and financially in the most positive fashion available to us.
We welcome your input and participation. The Booster Club board is a small group of volunteer parents who donate enormous amounts of time to raise funds for Argyle ISD’s student athletes.
