The Argyle Men's track and field team travelled to Aubrey yesterday for the field event finals, the 3200M run, and track prelims. The Eagles literally were soaring above the competition all day sending several to the Area meet next Thursday in Argyle.
Earlier this season, senior Spencer McCloud high jumped a remarkable 6'10" proving he is the reigning state champion for good reason. It didn't take nearly that much for Spencer to win the 2013 district title which he did yesterday jumping 6'2" to move on the the Area meet. Zach Dickerson and Hunter Treadwell also qualified with their 4th and 6th place finishes respectively.
Coach Tommy Ledford has long since established Argyle as the premier pole vaulting school in class 3A without question. Yesterday it was more of the same as Argyle once again made a clean sweep of 1st, 2nd, & 3rd in the Pole Vault. Junior Jon Pucciarello, who only recently took up pole vault, soared 14'6" to take the district title. Logan Dial took 2nd vaulting 12'6" while Terry Tanner finished 3rd with a vault of 12'0'.
In other field events, other Area meet qualifiers include Eric Schermerhorn who took 5th in triple jump and sophomore Taylor Sweatt who placed 3rd in discus.
In the 3200M run, Argyle again has a long history of success. Yesterday it was Alvaro Quintanilla setting the pace finishing 2nd while Cameron Schafer finished 4th.
The district meet continues on Thursday in Aubrey with the sprinters and middle distance runners competing.
Argyle is hosting the Area meet next Thursday, April 18 starting at 9AM. This meet will pit the top 6 finishers from districts 9-3A and 10-3A against each other to see who moves on to Regionals.
