The Argyle Eagles got wins number 20 and 21 this weekend in games that were very different in many ways and also very similar in one remarkable way.
On Friday night, the state's 3rd ranked Argyle Eagles baseball team fell behind early to rival Sanger. With one swing of Brandon Boyzuick's bat, the Eagles took a lead they never relinqushed thanks to Brandon's grand slam home run. Senior pitcher Seth Jones made sure that lead would be more than enough as he struck out 8 and allowed just 2 hits in the Eagles 11-1 5 inning win vs. Sanger.
Drew Gooch drove in two runs while Tyler Gibson and Cutter McDonald each drove in a run for the Eagles.
On Saturday, the Eagles hosted class 5A Rowlett in a non-distrct game being made up from a rain out earlier in the season. The Eagles again fell behind but battled back from each deficit with clutch hitting led by Cutter McDonald (1 RBI), Seth Jones (2 doubles & 1 RBI) and Davis Coughlan (a double).
However no hit was more clutch than Brandon Boyzuick's in the bottom of the 8th with the Eagles trailing 7-5. Brandon knocked his 2nd home run in as many games over the left field fence for a walk-off 3 run homer giving the Eagles a dramatic 8-7 victory.
For the weekend, Brandon went 4 for 6 at the plate with 2 home runs and an astonishing 10 RBI.
Next Tuesday the Eagles begin the 2nd half of district play with a trip to Carrollton Ranchview. Next Friday, Frisco Lone Star comes to Eagles Diamond for a big game. Lone Star handed the Eagles their only district loss of the season in a 2-1, 8 inning game a couple of weeks ago.
