Argyle head baseball coach Ricky Griffin agreed to move the Celina game scheduled for today to last night. Clearly his team was also eager to get started as the Eagles scorched Celina for 5 first inning runs on the way to a 9-0 victory.
Argyle pitcher Drew Gooch dialed it up from the mound again holding a powerful Celina to just two hits while he struck out 10. Argyle's offense was equally as hot last night as they pounded out 14 hits. Three of those hits came courtesy of Drew Gooch who went 3 for 3 at the plate with 3 RBI.
Other leading Argyle batters included Landon Rogers who was 3 for 4 with 2 RBI while clean up hitter Davis Coughlan was also 3 for 4 including a triple and had 3 RBI. Senior Seth Jones went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI.
With the victory, the Eagles are now 19-3 overall and 3-1 in district, tied with Frisco Lone Star and Celina for 1st place in district. The Sanger Indians come to Eagles Diamond on Friday night for a non-district match-up between these two long time rivals.
First pitch is 7PM and the game will also be broadcast live on the Argyle Broadcasting Network. Steve Sheridan and Mitch Cullen will be on the call with the Northstar Bank pre-game show starting at 6:50PM.
It's Argyle Youth Baseball Night at Eagles Diamond on Friday too. Get there early and bring your youth player out to meet the team and collect autographs. Each youth player will also have a chance to run out on the field with an Eagle as they take the field during introductions.
